Our Hackathon Project

HSHacks at 42 Silicon Valley, Fremont, CA was the biggest high school hackathon in the nation. Many experienced students and mentors came to the 24 hour hackathon to collaborate on numerous successful projects. We as a team of 5 arrived there eager to learn and code.

As soon as we got to the event, we began brainstorming and imagining innovative ideas that would solve problems we personally thought could use solving. After much deliberation, we decided that we wanted to create a Google Add-on that we dubbed EZGrader. It would allow teachers to customize a personal rubric that they could then use to grade large numbers of students' papers in a simple fashion. The tool would also show the teacher trends in his or her students' grades as well as create and email a personalized report to the student of his or her strengths and weaknesses.

We ended up sleeping for 3-4 hours that night because we were so eager to work on our project. Our team worked right up until the judging process, making sure that our project had all the features we initially intended it to have. After being judged, we had a window of an hour or so to relax and enjoy ourselves before the awards ceremony. We listened to the winners of the sponsor and overall prizes be announced, and then we headed home after a long weekend, ready to go to school the next day.
